Coordinator of Fight for Peace awarded MBE by Queen Elizabeth II

Luke Dowdney, Fight for Peace coordinator, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours List 2004 (Diplomatic and Overseas List) that was announced on June 12.

Honours are awarded twice a year, in June and at New Year, for exceptional achievement or service. The Queen chooses the recipients on the advice of the Prime Minister, to whom recommendations are sent either by government ministers or by members of the public.

Luke received his MBE for services to the prevention of child exploitation and violence in Brazil.

I'm very honoured to receive an MBE, and I'd like to dedicate the award to all the young people living in the Complexo da Marnd other favelas in Brazil who confront dangers and difficulties on a daily basis. It's fantastic that the work we do has been recognised, but we must not forget that there's still a lot of work to be done, said Dowdney when he was told of the award.
