Pensando Alto (Thinking Big) was created in June 2003 by Gabriel O Pensador, a Brazilian social activist and rap music pioneer. His music has been an inspiration to underprivileged communities, lending a voice to their inhabitants by making people aware of the problems within Brazilian society. Gabriel has always lived near the favela Rocinha. He has spent a significant amount of time getting to know the kids who spend their days skipping school and lingering at the stoplight marking the mouth of the favela inventing new ways to make ends meet. During these conversations, Gabriel devised ways in which he could help those kids and the Rocinha community. The result was Pensando Alto. The Pensando Alto project works towards integrating socially excluded children within the favela of Rocinha. By offering Rocinha’s disadvantaged children access to formal education, health awareness, sports activities and involvement in the arts, Pensando Alto opens doors to build better futures. The Dreams Can Be Foundation strongly supports Pensando Alto by obtaining individual sponsors for children and young adults identified as at risk or in particular need.
